Jimmy Quek, also known as Prabhakara, has been a full-time artist since 1986. He began learning art in 1971 and has since held 11 solo exhibitions and participated in over 80 group exhibitions worldwide. His paintings are signed “Prabhakara”, which means “source of light” in Sanskrit. Jimmy has received numerous awards and recognition for his art, including the First Prize IBM Art Award Singapore in 1988. He has also served as a judge for several local and regional art competitions and as an external assessor for the School of Fine Art at LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts. His paintings can be found in major corporations, institutions, ministries, convention centres, airline lounges, banks, hospitals, offices, and homes of art lovers and collectors around the world. His works are also part of the permanent collection at the Singapore Art Museum. In addition to creating art, Jimmy is committed to sharing his skills and experiences with others. He has taught sketching and painting courses at various institutions and currently offers ongoing drawing and painting lessons for adults and children at his home studio in Tampines.
